Hi has anyone any recommendation for car hire in nice France aerport without being ripped off thankyou

If you hire at the airport then you will be fleeced. You need a private insurance policy you will be bullied into taking there insurance. In my humble opinion you need to research local firms who will meet you at the airport. You will also be fleeced on fuel.

moneymaxim website, go compare for car hire
used them recently for crete really good.

I'd probably try to book through one of the main rental companies from the UK - sixt, alamo, enterprise, avis, Herz etc. You can also book through people like Expedia, Lastminute.com etc too - sometimes they can give advantageous pricing over a direct booking (expedia definitely provide cars from both major and local players at Nice - I just checked).

I always take out the damage waver as a matter of course, not because I'm careless but accidents can happen and sometimes vandalism too (had the sunroof kicked in during the night in Canada in 2006).

I would also advice that, following an incident we had in Portugal. I took out the full cover (which wasn't much extra back in the day). On the day before we were due to return, we came out of a restaurant, went to the public car park, to find that someone had virtually destroyed the drivers side of the car, and left without waiting for us to come back. Someone must have seen it happen, because there were people looking at the car. When we tried to ask what had happened, they just walked away - not a policeman in sight.
When we took the car back the following day, the hire company just took it back without asking any questions, and of course I didn't have anything extra to pay (the policy had a no excess waiver or whatever they call it).

I had a similar incident in Greece, took full cover on the hire car, passenger door was wrecked while parked up, took it back to the hire company, no questions asked, they just gave me another car for the rest of my holiday at no extra cost. I'd agree 100% with Andy. A few extra quid on your car rental could maybe save you thousands on your credit card.

We hired a car in Rhodes a few weeks ago. After looking around on the internet and using the big comparison sites I got a better deal going straight through Jet 2. The hire was as competitively priced as any other but the deposit required was much less.

I did some searching last night for a hire car in Italy, and expedia & Lastminute were both cheaper than going through easyjet, for example.

moneymaxim just check it out, all the big players are in there.
just go compare for car hire, I recently went to crete for 9 days to visit our house (we haven't bought a car there yet) and used it, car hire for a high spec astra was £150 and £42 on top for full waiver cover etc.
so worked out at £22 a day

Crete's not Nice! We paid €230 for 10 days of a new Panda. No deposit, full (including tyre and underbody) insurance. Light scrapes are almost expected there and usually ignored.
