Back when I was really keen on everything about cars, there was one make who were probably recognised more than any other for quality batteries - Varta. Two years ago, I bought a Varta battery for the Alfa and it has been nothing but trouble and it would seem from a quick search yesterday, that I am not alone. So, has anyone had any good or bad experiences with car batteries?

I wouldn't read too much into those reviews.
59 reviews since 2018 compared to the number of batteries they sell and people are more likely to leave a bad review than a good one.

I generally only use Exide batteries and never had a problem but they also have a "Bad" rating.

I wouldn't trust anything on Trustpilot anyway. Pay them enough money and you negative reviews will disappear just like that.

"....and people are more likely to leave a bad review than a good one.
Wise words.

When I worked in local newspapers, the "joy" of editing the letters page was considered punishment duty by the victims staff put on it. As I was generally considered part of the sales department, that was one pleasure I avoided! Being given the letters was sometimes referred to as "being sent to the castle of Moanalot".

Just had to replace the original (12 years old) battery in Mrs Nod's MX-5. It was a Panasonic. Not sure what brand the new one is but it has a 5 year warranty on it.

Bosch and Varta are made in the same factory and from the same production line
all things being equal they should be the same

last battery i bought was from tanya batteries online and chose one of their own rebrands rather than a badged one

it's been fine

your Varta battery should be warrantied for 5 years so just get it replaced it sounds like you ended up with a duff one

I did the same at Christmas time, ordered a battery from Tayna, one of their own brands. Good price, quick delivery and so far it's been faultless.
