Hi all

Ive decide I want to get printed a decent size pic (the one in this thread http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=361063).
I thought Id go for a canvas but have a few queries.

I'll probably order via photobox, a 24" x 16" canvas.

Do I make an image up with or without a border and text though? I cant decide. I think Im probably best just going for the pic itself with no border/text. If I do this, Id like to maximise the image area that is not folded around the frame. To that end I thought I could just add on some blank margin of a suitable colour that will end up on the side of the canvas frame. Trouble is, how big do I make this margin top and bottom?

Or would it be better with a border and some textand my name script along the bottom as in Joan's version of my pic in that thread?

Grateful for any advice on having a canvas print made up. They are doing 2 for one at the moment so I might dig out another pic as well and prepare it.

Thanks!

You could try mirror edging which continues the pic over the edges, here's a Youtube video on "how to" http://youtu.be/ELJRb6jJgzY, ya might like it.

That sounds good. I just need to figure out how much edging I need on photobox.

You need to know the width and depth of the stretchers they use so you can add a margin on the edges of your 24x36.

If you add a three inch margin all the way round to make your final image 30x42 the excess will be trimmed by whoever makes the canvas up.

Instead of mirroring, you could use the clone tool in Photoshop (or your photo editor) and paint a border that uses the edges of your (awesome) photo. Then apply a gausian blur to the border so it will have the same colors as the photo, but it will be a true border and not just more of the image.
