I was having the same problem with Internet Explorer about a week ago (it was also taking ages to load pages) so i installed Firefox & that appears to work OK.
 dont know mate, are your security settings in the browser on the lappy too high or something? Or is it just a case of hosted files with large file sizes are taking much longer to load up?
i notice this quite a bit, if your talking bout the red cross thing, if you right click on it and show picture it sometimes works, if not, right click properties(at the bottom) then copy and paste the url into the web browser in a new window/tab
This could be a problem for some mobile "broadband" users, especially if they stay connected for quite a while. The reason being the mobile operator will enforce a content control without notice (even if you have disengaged content control). This will almost certainly affect Flickr.
To prove this is the problem the next time you experience it disconnect and reconnect and then reload the page. If the images then show it proves it.
