Beginner Can't get my camera to connect to the laptop.

I've got a Nikon D5300 and have had no problems plugging it into my laptop but now it brings up the following error message:- "The latest USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows doesn't recognise it"

I've had a look on Google and it says to check the drivers are all up to date which they are so I tried it on another laptop and it brings up the same message so I'm assuming it's a problem with my camera.

I've looked through the camera menus and can't see anything I could change but wondered if I'm missing something?
I've also sent off for a new cable which hasn't arrived yet.

I've fixed it!!
God knows how, I've been trying for 4 days to get it working then I post on here and retry something I've done about 50x over the past few days and it works.

Bloody computers.
