Canoscan 9900f focus issue

Does anyone use a Canoscan 9900f flatbed scanner?

I have just tried to scan some 35mm slides and the focus seems to be out. The files are perfect exposure and colour wise, but completely soft. I've tried several slides, but get the same result.

Any ideas anyone?

Just how soft? Scanned images usually need liberal amounts of sharpening any way.

I mean really soft, out of focus soft. I had a polaroid sprintscan before and they were sharp scans. This is aweful. I don't know if its a calibration thing or something?

Are you using the canoscan negative holder?
