Hey everyone

Just got a quick question to ask you guys. I am not a computer expert so was wondering for a solution.

My old laptop has died. I used to do all my photos on there including downloading from the camera. I have no choice but to use my new laptop but I can not install canon utilities on there.

For some reason the disk just spins and then nothing happens.
I noticed the cd says for windows upto xp but my new laptop is window 7. Does this matter?

Is there anyway I can get the cd to load on my laptop? I tried running the cd on my other OLD computer and that seems to load fine. (but for some reason it can't install)

I need the utilities to download the images from the camera. I know I can just connect the camera to the computer to get it off that way but in utilities, the photos are downloaded and organised into dates which is what I need.

BTW I have a 400D and I don't want to use a CF card reader before anyone says as last time I used it, it currupted my card.

any advice would be great
Thanks

I tried contacting canon and they have given me a link to download the updater AND then another link which doesn't work.

Is there anywhere I can get this program?

What version of the disc have you got. I got version 22.4 when I ordered a 650D for the wife last June. That loads into Windows 7 without any problems. When you contacted Canon did you ask about the possibility of them sending you a new disc. The only other way to get a newer copy is to find a friend with one and copy it (shouldn't really do it I know) or install it from their disc and do the updates.

well I got my camera about 6-7 years ago lol. Version 13.1
I can ask canon to send me a copy of their new cd but do you think they would actually do this?

You can download & install the Canon software without a CD if you create the required registry entries

See http://www.dfguo.com/?p=24

Thanks for the Link but is this safe?? it sounds easy but like I said, I'm no computer expert and what are the chance I will break and damage my computer?

That link takes me to the link canon gave me. it's just updates for tilities :(

Yes, it's safe. Use copy and paste into the file to avoid any silly typos.

I have had trouble with the latest EOS utility - the latest version won't work on my Mac with raw files for some reason - it will on my old laptop with Vista OS. I have a Canon 5D3 and the raw files aren't supported by my old version of the utility.

Do you know what version of the utility you are downloading? What is the second update for? And what exactly happens? For instance mine appeared to load fine, but just hangs when I attempt to download raw files - it works perfectly with jpegs.

I managed to track down an older version of the utility on the net - which according to some forums fixed their problems but sadly it didn't fix mine.

I have raised it with Canon Support but have resorted to using a card reader.

Just another thought - have you successfully loaded other software using the cd drive?

May be worth checking to see if Windows 7 isn't doing the "Autorun" thing.

Once the CD has done it's whirring, open up Explorer and see if you can access the CD in that way. Either double click on the icon or, if it just pulls up a list of files, look for something like Setup.Exe or Autorun.Exe and double click on that.

Thanks for the reply guy.

The disk just spins with a weird noise, when it stop (after about 1 min) I double clicked CD/DVD drive and the drive pops open, ejecting the disk ??!?!

I have formatted one of my old computer with window xp and am currently using that comp to get my photos off. However that computer is very slow and it took 8 minutes 20 second from switching on the camera to EOS utilities to show up. This was only a 2gb card hahaha
