I've been using my 70-200 F4 L lens with a Teleplus SHQ 1.5X teleconvertor, the overall quality looks ok but the AF slows down and hunts sometimes. Would I be better off buying a Canon 1.4X teleconvertor ? Would there be much differance in AF speed and quality ?

If you get the 1.4 you wont lose AF, you only lose it when the lens becomes an F8 with the X2.
I use the 1.4 on my 70-200 F2.8 IS USM and it's great.

I have to disagree with Dollybuster on this one.

The Teleplus converter you have is a budget model which will have some effect on the MTF of your lens....this loss will have a negative effect on AF.

A Canon 1.4xII or Kenko 1.4x ProDG model has better optics and will assist with AF. It won't be as good as the native lens AF but is a usable combination. There is little to choose between the two and the Kenko's price might be more appealing.

PS...your 70-200/4L is a proper lens

:agree: with Bob on this!

The Kenko 1.4x Pro 300 DG would be a better bet optically.
