Can any one give feedback on using teleconverter lenses with the 100-400 L IS USM mark 2 lens. My camera is a 5d4.

Do the latest TCs work well with autofocus working or not. (mark 3)

What are the older and cheaper mark 2 teleconverters like with this lens. Is there a major difference between the m2 and the m3 ?

Asking due to reading conflicting comments online in various forums.

Your best TC would be to get Canon 5DsR or R5... this will give same AF performance, f-stop and bokeh, more details and no extra optical aberrations.

It doesn't hurt to try but more MP and cropping is always the better solution. Extra piece of glass on a slow zoom lens just isn't ideal. These are really designed for the big white primes.

I managed to find a place (LCE Newcastle) that had both in s/h to try this (a long time before lockdown)... albeit with a 6D2. Was allowed to try them both with my body & lenses and frankly I couldn't tell the difference between them, even when pixel peeping. Naturally your mileage may vary.

Autofocus performance is a proportional to the maximum aperture of the lens/convertor combo - so at the 400 end of the 100-400 with a 2x teleconverter you're looking at f/11 - if your body does AF at f/11 it will autofocus, but it will definitely be slower than the naked lens at f/5.6 - if the body is incapable of autofocus at f/11 then it will either hunt incessantly or do nothing.

I bought the Mk 2 and saved £60
