I have looking all over the place for a good features list for this flash.

Something that tells me what power increments i has, does it go down past 1/64 power

What buttons it has?
does it have a modelling lamp function?
Can I fire my oncamera flash and have it trigger?
So many other things that I would like to know but dont know the questions.

maybe this will help here

got one and near as i can tell it won't fire off my 450d's pop up flash goes down to 1/64 in 1/3 stop intervals and it does have a modelling lamp.
I'm gonna read the linky to find out more now :D

The 430 EX II works as a slave but only when a Speedlite 550 or 580 EX is fitted to the hotshoe. Alternately a Canon Speedlite ST-E2 can be fitted which triggers the slave flashes but is not a flash itself.

Sorry, had to put the bairns to bed so never got a chance to reply properly.

You cannot fire an off-camera Canon flash from the camera itself without the above mentioned 580 EX, 550 EX or an ST-E2.

Bear in mind these options are infra-red which means range is limited and there are reliability issues, especially outdoors where there is infra-red light naturaly present.

TBH if you invest in a cheap set of ebay radio triggers you will learn a lot quicker. Any radio triggering system from the cheap Cactus triggers to top of the range pocket wizards all do one simple thing, they send a signal to fire the flash. You lose all your TTL automation that your onboard or hotshoe mounted flash has.

This, as you will soon figure out, is no great shakes. Sticking your flash on manual and adjust it to suit. You will learn quicker and you will soon be able to figure out pretty accurately what to set your aperture and flash strength to. Its like zeroing a rifle, throw out a couple of test shots and you will be bang on the money.

Read up on strobist.com for a world of info about this.

I got a Sigma 530 Super DG instead as it was only £80

How does this differ to the Canon 430EX in terms of power?

Would you recommend it for a saving of around £100? (Would fund a new Manfrotto tripod to replace my joke a Velbon tripod)

EDIT: Where did you find this for only £80?

The 530 Dg Super is a much more powerful and feature rich flash than the 430EX it is roughly equivalent to the 580 in terms of features if not quite in build quality. Not sure where the op found one for £80 my guess would be second hand but either way it's a bargain.
