Hi all,

My trusty Canon s95 doesn't seems to focus any more. Most of the photos I take are soft. (I can provide examples, if needed.)

I'm investigating options to repair, but don't know where to start? Can anyone provide any cheap links?

Alternatively, I've noticed spare parts of eBay... Has anyone repairs their own S95? How difficult is it?

Thanks

Colchester cameras repair small canon cameras I think the will give you an estimate. HTH David

Thanks I'll give them a call.

EDIT: I got a quick reply:
"Thank you for your query.
It is difficult to give an exact price without seeing camera, but as a guide, a repair would be £35 plus VAT (i.e. £42) and return postage (£10?).
This price will include a complete strip down, repair, full check, clean, calibration and six month warranty, but does not include any major parts.
If any major parts are required then we would inform you before any work went ahead."

Although they seem like a reliable company, if it requires a new part - I'd get the same camera (or better) off eBay for less money :(

I've started a 'wanted thread' here, just in case anyone here has a pocket camera knocking about?

That is the dilemma in this virtually throw away age, camera tech changes so quickly that the cheaper the camera (and I know the S95 didn't seem cheap when I bought one  ) the quicker it becomes economically unviable to repair, and may be better to replace with the same model, or even its replacement(s), or something totally different.

There is nothing wrong with my S95, but I have GAS for the Sony RX100 III. ;) I was hoping as each new version came out the price would go down, but it doesn't seem to be happening. :( They just price the new ones higher.

Hope you get it sorted one way or another. :)

I got my S95 in 2011 for £310, mainly because of the size and the RAW option. The RX100 was obviously Sony's tech people copying the Canon S series judging by the similarities, but improving in every way. The MIII adding the LCD view screen made it more desirable to me.

Someone is selling a RX100 III in the classifieds for £399. Lots of extra bits too. I'm tempted. ;)
