Hello,
I am new to Forums so I apologise if this is the wrong place for this thread. I have a Canon 20d, which I appreciate is an old model but it was my first DSLR and still works perfectly apart from the LCD is badly scratched. So would like it replaced but don't know the first place to look for repairs as it's an old model. I know I could replace the body easily enough but it's just because this was my first body I brought. I live in Hampshire and don't know of anyone who would still hold parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Peter

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I know nothing about the Canon 20d but think it is a few years old. I'd wonder if it'd be viable to replace the LCD. Is it something you could learn to live with?

Hi,
Thanks for reply . Yes, I probably could. Just fussy.....haha. Its just annoying as the rest of it is in great condition and its hard to read the menu system.

welcome to TP, all I can come up with and suggest is getting a new camera. Did extensive search for replacement LCD screen and got zero results. even if posible to find one the cost outweights that cameras value. to give some idea of camera prices etc

Find a plastic scale modelling forum . They do a great job on polishing damaged ( scratched ) clear parts , such as airplane canopies . The plastic material is the same .
Another solution is to use a copper cleaning fluid such as Brasso or Hagerty or whatever you may find . Apply a small amount in a corner ( for testing purposes ) using an old t shirt of good cotton quality or something similar if you don't have old t shirts . The fluid dries very quickly and then you can polish . Polishing can be done even with cotton buds .
Scratches will not disappear but the effect will be less visible .
There is another way of completely eliminate the scratches but i cannot suggest it because of the transparent material .

Both of the LCD screens on the 20d have protective plastic screens. It’s not likely the LCD is scratched. Both those screen covers used to be available, but I doubt that even if Canon had a replacement it’d be financially viable.
