I currently use a Canon 70d and was at a bird reserve recently and got chatting to a photographer with an R7 and it looks like a fantastic camera. I'm tempted to upgrade - but he was also using a 100-500 lens that my budget couldn't stretch to.

I know I'll need an adapter to use my EF lenses with the R7. But my question is, is it not worth the upgrade if I can't afford to spend a lot on lenses? Currently the only L lens I have is a 24-70 f4 which is my walkaround lens. I also keep a cheap 70-300 in my bag. I have a large Sigma 150-600 which I use for wildlife shoots but I imagine that would be unbalanced on the R7. Would be grateful for opinions.

This has been touched on in a thread recently.

I have an R7 and no RF glass as of yet.

I use a Sigma 150-600 C on mine, with no problems that I've yet noticed. Beware though, some copies of that lens seem to have problems on the R7, allegedly.

I also use a 100-400L, albeit the Mark 1 version, and AF might be slightly snappier with that than the Sigma, although it's barely noticeable.

Have you considered an adapted 100-400L Mk2? That would be considerably cheaper than the 100-500 and not much of a compromise at all.

Thank you. I think even the 100-400 would be a bit out of my price range for now but if it works with the Sigma then that will be a compromise while I save up for something a bit lighter!
