I am intending to buy a R7 to replace my trusty old 70D, one of the main reasons is for it's superior autofocusing, as I mainly take birds and wildlife.
I have just read a review which has said this-

You can adapt EF-mount lenses, too, and the camera is often available bundled with this adapter. However, the autofocus performance isn't as good with these lenses, so you lose out on one of the R7's strongest features.

Has any R7 owners found this is the case? As I will be using my Sigma 150-600mm C lens with it.

The adapter is brilliant. - I have zero negatives with it, focus just fine on my R5 and R10. I've got the 200 2,8 L, 24-105 L and 70-300 USM ii and 50 1.4 for context

I think what the quote is alluding to is that RF lenses have extra contacts and thus extra communications with the body compared to EF. Therefore native RF lenses perform better than EF lenses adapted. In reality it is marginal. AF performance with the adapter will be better than on your 70D

The general performance in order is

RF lenses on RF bodies
EF lenses + adapter on RF bodies
EF lenses on EF bodies

In my experience all of my EF lenses perform superbly on my RP and like you I'm about to buy an R7 to replace my 1DXII because my needs have changed.

Hope this is clear,

Neil

I've not got any RF glass to use on my R7, but my L series lenses work just as well on the R7 as they do on the 1DX2 and 7D2, and I'm just using the cheap adaptor, not the one with a ND or polarizer built in. Maybe RF glass is better still, I don't know, but I wouldn't say you would be loosing out in any way.

Same for me, no issues, it's still mindboggling. I would expect RF glass on an R body to be even better, as it's newer tech. You will be blown away by EF on the R7 though.

There were some AF issues with the Sigma on the R7 for some people but from what I gather, it was specific to individual copies of those lenses. My 150-600C seems to be working perfectly on my R7, as well as it does on my 5Div.

I'm using my ef 200mm 1.8 on the R5, perfect. All my ef glass seems to work seamlessly, however I've not tried BIF yet.

Eos R7 100-400l mk2 - once locked on the camera was focus tracking like something magic was going on inside ! Can't imagine how this would be improved by having an RF 100-400L - would be interested if anyone has tried both

Dougan you are in Devon, anywhere near Barnstsple if so you could handle mine, as for af with adaptor it is faster than on my 70d and far more accurate in my opinion

Thanks for the offer!
I see you use the 800mm f11 lens, it looks a bargain price wise. My only reservation would be the f11 in low light, my Sigma does f6.3, which does help. You would need to push the ISO up to compensate for the f11.
How high can you push the ISO on the R7 before you notice the picture quality starting to degrade?

I think as a rule the RF lenses are ‘better’ than their EF counterparts (including AF ability).

However, there’s no degradation of EF lens performance when adapted to R cameras.

I’d go further and say that my 135 and ancient 70-200 are better for the addition of image stabilisation.

Not got 800 f11, use 100-400 mk2, have not pushed iso yet
