Canon R7 and Sigma 150mm f2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens autofocus problem

They should work but I find the autofocus very poor -any ideas? It is not the lens I think as I have tested it with another camera.
I have firmware 1.5.0 should I upgrade to 1.6?
The camera seems to work with birds ok I just tested with the Canon 60mm and it was fine
