Hi all.

I was hoping someone could guide me on how to do this. It must be obvious, yet I can't figure it out.

What I am wanting to do is, set my focus to one point and servo.

I can do this but when in servo it always defaults to face/eye tracking which I don't want. I have the 3 buttons on the back set to 1,back button focus/single point, 2,eye/face tracking, 3,servo or single point mode.

So in escence I want the option to act as my 6D used to do. One centre point and servo. So what ever I focus on will be tracked.

My better half did a race for life at the weekend, lots of runners/faces. I found myself wanting to shoot the old way as the camera often picked out random folk. (when there lots of faces in the frame) no problems when its a lone runner, eye focus works a treat then.

Apologies for the waffle.

You should be able to do better than you did with the 6d (a lot)
There’s a video I followed, but it might take a while to dig it out

I have the AF on button to continuous focus (though can change the mode easily with the other buttons) and the * button for eye af.

So when I lift my camera, depending on object or person I can easily focus.

Hi Phil.

Thanks for the reply.
I have Af on button set to single point focus mode and usually one shot. So in theory just what I want. Except I want to shoot in servo. If I engage that via the grid button the focusing box stays green and does not track.
I have the * set to tracking but if I focus using that button the box turns blue and tracks faces/eyes which it's not what I want in those situations where it as so many heads to track.
Apologies if I'm confusing things by the way I'm trying to explain things.

Oh yes the focus is way way better than the 6d but I still miss the simplicity and ease of use.

I have my focus setup as follows.

AF-On button focuses
The * button toggles between 3 focus points/modes. Centre point, the smaller centre point and tracking
The button next to that toggles between Single shot and AI Servo.

This makes is very easy to quickly switch between different focus modes, points and tracking without taking the camera away from your face.
You can pick which focus points you want to cycle through (In my case just the 3 that I use most often.)

In my custom menu I can pick the tracking method. People, Animals, Cars etc. Defaults to Animals but easy to change depending on what I'm photographing.

This is on a R5 so I'm assuming you have the same functionality on the R6

Thanks for your reply.
I appreciate your time. Yes it's the same on R6.

It seems from the replies I have had the camera set up correctly. It will be me, not using it correctly.

Just to update and close this thread off.

It turned out, as expected. User error was the problem.

Everything is working fine.

Thanks for all the responses.

Glad to know you’re sorted. Especially as you’d taken on board my recommendation to buy it  :$
