Hi all,

Slowly getting to grips with my new R5 and went out today to have a play. Obvious AF is one of the big things on this camera, a totally new system and paradigm from what I'm used to (5D3).

Now I'm pretty happy with my config/setup for stills shots, which is my main thing. I've got it configured with back-button AF, using the AF-ON button for single-point AF and the * button to enable tracking mode. This works really well as I can instantly switch between the two 'modes' of operation by using the relevant button which works well for me. Tracking itself works fine, both subject and eye.

Now, video...

Video is more of a curiosity to me as I've never really bothered with it before but I'm trying to get to grips with it and experiment a bit just out of curiosity as much as anything. The issue is I don't understand how the subject/eye tracking is supposed to work in video modes.

I had it set up today in tracking mode with AF Servo enabled and was using the viewfinder. I found this did find and track subjects (and their eyes if possible), displaying a white box (well corners of a box) where it was tracking. However I don't think this was actually focusing as the area it was highlighting seemed to be going out of focus quite frequently. Is it supposed to be tracking and focusing in this 'mode' or am I missing something?

Also, If I tap on the rear screen, then I get a white box with a double-outline which then seems to track the object/subject I tapped on. How does this double-outlined box differ from the single one above? I don't understand this.

If anyone can shed any light on what's going on here, I'd appreciate it as I'm confused :)
