Just looking at printers to be abel to print my photos currently looking at either the Canon 9000 MKII or the 9500.

Has anyone got any expericance with either of these or can offer any advise.

Thanks

I have the Pro 9000 MI. had it for about 5 or 6 yrs (i think). Prints are great, have only used canon ink in it as i find alternatives don't last as long plus had issues with colours not printing true. Mine gets a lot of use & so far no issues!

The 9500 produces excellent prints but it needs to be used on a regular basis, it's a pigment printer and after a while the nozzles block if it doesn't get used, doing a full head clean on a 9500 will scare you financially, the 9000 is a very capable printer, if I were in the same position as you from my experience with the 9500 I would go with the 9000.

I think from what I've seen, physical differences is that the 9500 has 10 colours instead of 8, 2 of them being blacks for better mono. It's also uses pigment ink rather than dye and also the print heads print at 3pl (or what ever it is) where add the 9000 prints at 2pl so the The 9000 prints with another gradients.

I have the 9000mk2 but only had it a couple of days so can't comment as a review. I was lucky and found one used but had hardly been used to the point is still on a couple of its original cartridges i think

I have the 9500 Mk II, and I am very impressed by it.
Either printer will 'work better' if you have a profiler capable of doing both paper and monitor. (I have the colormunki photo 1 I think it is called). Although prints onto Canon and Ilford paper were good, they are noticeably better once I had created a custom profile.
Looking around though, although the 9500 MkII does not appear to be end-of-life exactly, it looks like there are three new Canon printers (the -100 as mentioned above) which are replacements for the 9000 Mk II and the 9500 Mk II.
I think the thing with the 9500 Mk II is to leave it powered on all the time. It will wake itself up and 'mix' (vibrate) the ink cartridges to ensure that they don't settle. Otherwise, they 'loose' perhaps 10% if left unused for a long period.

I also have the 9500 mk II, the prints it produces I really struggle to find fault with. If anything my only problem with it is that it takes up a large amount of space for the amount that I actually use it :( To remedy that I shall endeavour to use it much more!

Both are discontinued for a while now, unless you want used or old stock. The direct replacements are Pro-10 and Pro-100. Pro-1 is a slight step up. 10 and 1 offer slightly improved print ink set.

I have the pro9000 MK11 and am very pleased with it.

Use it for prints for society competitions.
