Canon Printer and paper

Hello

Just a quick question...

I've just set up my old Canon Pixma IP5000 printer and found some old Epson Matte heavyweight paper which I used for an old project. Can I run this paper through this printer without any problems?

Sheet feeder: 64 to 105 g/m² and supported Canon special media up to 273 g/m²

One more question now...

I can print images with no problems, however when it comes to printing word documents it just runs the piece of paper straight through it without laying any ink...

Anybody got any ideas?

Is it something simple as your black cartridge empty or clogged up as the Word doc would be purely black ink?
