Hi all,

Been looking at this printer today and was wondering if there are any owners on here who can tell me what the print quality is like - especially for black & white.

Thanks

Hi all,

Geoff, I don't have one but I do have a MG 6350, which was one of first to use that 6-ink set (it has CMY, 2 blacks and a grey, IIRC). The inks were very expensive when it first came out, but are getting a bit more reasonable, with XL versions and multipacks.

I haven't used it very much, but the quality seemed pretty reasonable for photo printing. The few shots I did in black and white had a very slight colour cast I think, although it reduced markedly after sitting around for a day out-gassing. It's never going to be as good as Pro-100 but for the money it's got to be better than a 5 ink printer!

EDIT:
Meant to say that I wasn't sure whether the print path for photo paper was too tightly curved for very heavy papers, but the 240 gsm stuff I used was OK. Might be worth checking that out (my MG5250 has its photo paper going in the back with only a slight curve, but the MG6350 has a tray at the bottom so has to curve tightly round).

Thanks for the reply Chris.

I agree about the Pro-100 - superb printer although I did see the Epson SC-600 at the weekend and the B&W output was exceptional (I thought) although the Epson is quite a bit more expensive than the Canon Pro-100.

I mainly need A4 (with the occasional A3) but from what I've seen/read/experienced B&W printing is not a strong point with these smaller printers with fewer cartridges - might have to save the pennies for the Epson.

If you are a Pro Canon user Canon will give you a voucher to test the Pro 100 printer using your own images. This is done through Calumet.

In saying that, I suppose if you popped into Calumet they would fire a few images through a printer for you on one of their Demo days?

Keith Cooper of Northlight images (who reviews a lot of top line printers) did a review of an A4 Envy printer, and in the comments I asked him if he could try some of the 6-ink A4s. He replied:

"Thanks - I've asked Canon about having a look at one of the new printers in that range. Not sure of an ETA though.

You might want to read my article here about removing colour tints in B&W prints - maybe of some help?"

NB, I added the link in the quote to what I think is the article he meant, but he might also have meant this one on DIY ICC Profiles...

Compatible cartridges are just hitting the market now for the new Canon ranges: MG5750, 6850, 7750 and variants.

We now have limited stock of the compatible cartridges for the PGI-570/CLI-571 range of printers. Not sure if I can put a direct link here but you can follow the link in my signature and search from there. Feel free to PM me and I can also sort out a discount code :)

Just a quick heads up, our sale prices will be active from midnight tonight including a big drop on the new compatibles for the Canon PGI-570/CLI-571 printer ranges.
