Hi

I've just discovered a problem with the Canon Pixma ix6550. I like the printer A LOT - for the price, but I can't find a way round its 676mm print length limit.

Is there a known workaround? The chap from Canon support that I just spoke to indicated that there might be, but he wasn't able/allowed to tell me what it was.

This is a dealbreaker for me - I want to be able to print panoramas up to around 1m in length, so if no-one can help I'll have a 'brand new' (3 x A3 prints printed only) Pixma ix6550 with three SETS of boxed compatible inks going 'cheep' tomorrow.....

i'm confused, isn't there an option for a custom paper size in the setup options and then you just feed it through with some careful man-handling. or am I missing something,
always liked canons though, is google not helpful?

AFAIK you can't do longer than A3+ with it.

If it doesn't have the option of custom size in the canon printer GUI then it does not have it. What does the instruction manual say?

Google has, as always, provided the answer - but not without significant digging. Canon, apparently, refuse to program a 10 second change to their drivers which would allow printers to use any length of media. The current limitation for 'custom paper size' on ALL A3 'personal' printers is 676mm or 26.6". This sucks mightily I have to say.

The canon support guy I spoke to went through the motions of 'checking' all the A3 drivers (Pixma Pro 1 downward) and told me that unfortunately they all 'seemed' to have the same restriction.

I've since found out that this has been a known issue with all Canon A3 printers since 2004 at least!

So - now trying to decided whether to spend £600 on a new Epson R3000, or a second hand Canon iPF 6100......

Any offers for the iX6550?

<ETA> Should've perhaps made clear - the Canon DOES have a 'custom paper size' settting in the GUI, but the longest dimension is limited to 676mm....
