Hey :)
Been to City today, and came along other tog that had Canon 1d body with 100-400 L attached to it and his second body was nikon D700....
whats the point having canon and nikon at the same time ?
Is it not silly to invest in to different kind of lenses ? :cuckoo:

He could be a journalist doing a side by side comparison of the 2 cameras - or a wealthy enthusiast with no particular loyalty to either brand (and deep pockets!). IMO, no odder than an F1 fan having a Ferrari and a Merc in his garage.

Perhaps he is in the process of switching from one to the other and hasnt yet replaced his second camera?

keep it coming
;)

People like that need to have a serious amount of money or something :D

im just looking for a reasonable explanation, thats it :)
idea of comparision is good....but he had short prime on nikon or something shorter then 100-400 on his canon...so no:) not a comparision:)

Not an investment, if he's a pro, they're just the best tools for the job, brand doesn't come in to it.

Exclusivity is a backwards concept, if you choose you're weapon by brand rather than suitability.

When I was shooting a lot of long stuff, I seriously considered getting a cheap 20d just to plonk a 500mm f/4 IS on. The lens was WAY cheaper than the Nikon version, and the 20D would have been free.

I may well be getting a Canon 5D MKII shortly, to go with my Nikon gear. I don't really care about the labels on my camera,

Perhaps (like me) he loves his Nikon, but wanted to buy one of the long primes (which are about £1k cheaper in Canon mount.....).....

i will second that

I wish i could afford myself D3 and 5Dmk2 ;)

nope.... had a look on him for good 15mins ( i was drinking beer in the cafe/pub) and he was by him self switching bodies now and then:)

Who cares?

We agree ,again?............

I know one tog that had canon and Nikon, canon for natural light, and nikon as the flash system is better. Best of both worlds
I think you're both on the right track...

The big clue is that his Canon lens was a 100-400mm L IS. The Nikon equivalent (80-400mm VR) is a positive embarrassment by comparison. I think he's going down the 'best of both worlds' route, or maybe most of his kit is Nikon, but either way the 100-400L is a 'must-have'.
