Help
I am trying to use my 580EX on a 1DmkIII set to multi-flash for one exposure. So far so good. Saw the Syl Arena article on the Canon website. Set my flash to Multi mode, set the number of flashes (8) and the flash rate to 10hz (10 per second?). Set the power level to 1/32 for starters. Set the shutter speed to 2 sec. Stuck my youngnou remote trigger on.
Then played around, managed to get several exposures, but one that seemed odd was a distinct 3-image multi-exposure. Can't work out why that should be with the no of flashes at 8 and 10hz rate.

Can anyone with a better understanding please help. I can't seem to get the flash rate to go beyond 1 sec. If I set the camera to 2 sec, its flash, flash, flash, then nothing until the shutter closes. That can't be quite right.

Thanks in advance.

Suspect a triggering quirk. I've just done the exact same thing with 580EX and RF-602 and it works fine on-camera, but if I fire it manually by pressing the test button, the flash only fires while the button is held fully down. If you just press it briefly, it only flashes two or three times. Dunno if that's a factor, though my camera is a 5D2 and Canons are notoriously quirky when it comes to third party flash kit.

If you want the flash to fire for two full seconds, then set it to do 20 flashes (not 8 total) at 10 per second.

Thanks, I'll have another play. I thought 20 flashes, 10 hz = 2 secs but it didn't want to work.

You may well be right. Using 2sec delay managed to get it to work OK.
