My Canon 24-70 f2.8L seems to have something 'floating' around between the rear element, and the element in front of that. - It's not a foreign object - rather, a small circular washer - It's definitely a 'bit' of Lens...

I first noticed it after AF wasn't behaving as it should, at 24mm - it was as if something (probably this little washer...) was preventing it from focusing. taking the lens off to check the contacts, I noticed the washer towards the edge of the lens, trapped inside...

It's obvious to me that it's come loose from somewhere internal.

What's the best course of action for repair? The original vendor (Jessops... it came as part of a 5D/24-70 kit) is no longer open...

Any suggestions on where to send it for repair / service?

Regards,
Martyn.

I had something floating around in my rear element once :gag: Jessops turned their nose up at it :D Another vote for Canon Elstree

Yes another vote for Canon @ Elstree.

Might be worth a call to see if it comes in their fixed price repairs ...

Agree with all of the above, I've had a lens serviced and repaired under their fixed price scheme and I couldn't fault the service.

Sounds like a good plan to me - Liking the fixed price bit… I'll look into it, as close inspection seems to reveal a couple of minor marks, possibly scratches, on the inner element, caused by the foreign object.

I've some time off from shooting for a few weeks until the next wedding, so hopefully, I'll have it back by then. Fingers crossed!

Many thanks for the responses.

If you have 2 bodies and a few lenses join as CPS member (free) and that will give you priority repairs - usually three-four days

Fixed price only applies if there is no accidental damage. Loose bits might get them thinking :suspect:
