Hi guys and gals.

Recently the focusing switch on my old 80-200 f2.8L lens broke and I wanted to know who the best people are to get it repaired at as it's my most expensive and loved lens. I'm based on the border of Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire if it helps, hoping someone can give some help

Fixation in London are good. Quite alot of people on here use them I think.

Thanks Alex, have you used them yourself ?

Yes when I dropped my 24-70. They did the insurance repairs, professional, good comms, fast turn around and they sorted out payment from the insurers themselves so I didn't have to act as middle man.

Sounds good I'll give them a call then :)

I highly recommend Canon Elstree. Superb service
+1

I got my 70-200 repaired by Canon for £130 (main item was replacing the IS unit), whereas Fixation and Colchester Camera Repair Service quoted around £500.

Canon appear to offer a fixed price repair cost structure. Great if you need major repairs, bad if you need something rudimentary. But I'd give them a call to confirm this.

Turnaround time was good as well, but I'm a CPS member so that's as it should be.

Needless to say, I was extremely happy.

Cheers,
Tony

I had two lenses fixed by Elstree earlier. One was on a fixed price service, the other wasn't.

Only quibble was a slightly slow turnaround but as it was earlier this summer with Wimbledon, Euro 2012 kickball and Olympics all very close to each other, priority was given for CPS members.

another happy elstree customer here.
fixed my 70-200 f2.8.
paid over the phone, good comms and quick turn around.
Droped off by ups and well packaged.
def use them again.......

Thnaks to all that have replied, I shall give both a call to see what they say

As your lens has been out of production for some time (mid 1990's?), you may find Canon and other companies reluctant to undertake a repair as they no longer hold spare parts etc - there are several companies that specialise in repairing vintage equipment I have not used them myself but Sendean in London was recommended to me by another photographer.

Yes it is a 90's model, was sold to me by my boss just under a year ago he had it from new.
I shall add them to my phone call at the weekend list :) thanks for the info

If you don't have any joy Dan, try Colchester as they were the only ones to have a diaphragm unit for my 35-350 L lens last year,

Rob
