I'm seriously thinking about getting a good compact camera to complement my nikon D40x. my current samsung i5 is a pain, as every single photo i take of my little one has red eyes, no matter what i do. Its worse with the red eye reduction (argghhh). have always liked canon compacts, but never had one, so i'm thinking nows the time. really love the Ixus range, and their features, so look to get one of these.

Can anyone recommend a Canon Ixus camera? i like the sound of the Ixus 75, the Xus 850 is, and 950 is.

I bought the Ixus 65 for my girlfriend for her birthday, she takes several hundred shots a month for work with it, it takes good shots and is just a brilliant little camera.

that sounds encouraging. thanks

My girlfriend has the ixus 60 and she loves it, especially the macro mode which is really quite astounding - focuses down to 3cm! An excellent little camera, don't think you could go wrong with it.

thanks guys, i havent looked into the ixus 60 or 65, think i'd better check them out as they sound very good

I buught a Ixus 60 earlier in the year, I have been delighted with it. here are a few samples from it which I have posted on here.

Thanks for photo samples and the links. the photo quality is very good, better than the samsung i5 photos i'm used to. think i'm definetly gonna concentrate on the ixus range if i get a new compact camera.

check out the canon outlet on ebay, there are a few for sale on there

thanks walls, off to have a look now.

the 60/65 has a viewfinder which the newer models don't if that's important to you.

i went for the ixus 75 kit. Jessops had it on sale for £220. the kit includes the camera, case and a neck strap, as well as the usual accessories-battery, battery pack, CD software, etc. I had a price match voucher from a photography magazine. First asked if they price match, and he said no. i then told him i had a price match voucher, he couldnt say anything, as the voucher and jessops page advert said they'd price match any camera/lens in the mag. one advert had the 75 kit at £185, so i got it for £185. comet had just the camera at £230 so i'm quite pleased. i know i could've bought it cheaper on the net, but i prefer to get photographical equipment from a real shop for peace of mind. got the battery on charge and intend to have a play today-first impression though are good!

Looks like you got yourself a good deal there & a cracking camera too. I always like to have a haggle as well when I am buying something new.

When I bought my Ixus 60 I also bought a memory card & case at the same time, I asked if I could have a package deal discount as I was buying a few items, I made it clear that if I did not get one I would go to a rival camera shop to see if they would give me a deal. I was at a nearby town to where I live and there are a couple of specialist camera shops within 5 mins walk of each other, so the guy knew I wasn't bluffing. He offered me a £20 discount if I bought all 3 items there and then, which I did.

Shy bairns get nowt!

It might be worth waiting till August bank holiday as Canon have done cashback on compact cameras the last two bank holiday weekends this year.

Oh dear!!! I didnt know that, oh well, i've bought it now. That'll teach me LOL

Had a quick play today and its great!! my previous compact (samsung i5), always created red eyes(especially with the rede eye reduction feature), so the red eye correction is gonna be great! I also do scrapbooking and card making so the colour accent feature is gonna be a fantastic feature too
