Canon IS question

As anybody got a Canon compact with optical IS eg Powershot a710/a720is, G9. The question is when IS turned on does anyone notice any sound from within the camera like a (whiring sound) is this normal. I have the a710is.

My gf has a A570IS - i use it more than she does and its silent in operation

All Canon IS I have ever used makes like a "spinning" sound when its running...

Thanks all just emailed Canon to make sure. They say could take upto 5 days to answer email. It only starts IS is activated but when turned off theres no noise, maybe nothing to worry about.

My A720 makes a tiny whirring noise....and all my DSLR lenses with IS also do. It's the mechanism inside doing its thing. Don't worry!
