Yes
Canon have really ****ed me off for the 2nd time with there cash back offer, here is why.

A year ao so ago i bought he 70-200 F2.8 is usm L, for £1250 and then 2 weeks after i bought it Canon offer £100 cash back on the lens.

I emailed Canon and asked them if i could claim the cash back even though the offer started 2 weeks after i got the lens, they said sorry but no.

And just 3 weeks ago i go out and buy the 17-40 F4 L and 2 weeks after they are offering £70 cash back on the lens, i emailed them about letting me have the cash back and they said sorry no.

If i hadn't spent so much on Canon gear i would swap over to Nikon tomorrow, they wind me up.

Not really 'Client Focussed' are they:shake: (pun unavoidable)

As you've posted a bad story to perhaps thousands now, not letting you have just £170 on a spend of several thousand is not clever marketing

How much better would the story have been if you'd be able to say...

"Good old Canon, despite me being 2 weeks premature for their deal, they still honoured it - great company"

Canon - not clever

But if they allow one person, where do they draw the line?, as the next person comes along, saying I bought mine three weeks before, then four etc.

As much as it would really annoy me too, they do have a point.

What if someone who bought a lens 3 weeks before asked the same question....4 weeks? 8 weeks? 12 weeks? Where should they draw the line?

I seem to fall foul of things like this too, so I can understand your frustration, but I just put it down to sods law when it happens to me.

:agree: 100%

just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes, i've been 'hit' before when i've bought something, then next day seen it in a half price sale lol. Just got to take it on the chin :)

Sorry, I fail to see how Canon have done anything wrong. In both cases you were prepared to buy the lens for the price you paid. You didn't do it because you thought cashback might be offered later, and then you'd be able to claim.

As Hawker says, where do you draw the line? Oh, Tesco do Cathedral City cheese 2 for 1 this week, but not last week - should I be able to go back in and claim an extra block? Hell no!

I can appreciate the frustration, but I'd hardly hold Canon responsible.

It seems you are a master of bad timing PapaLazarou. :shake: ;)

I can see Canon's point though, a friend of mine had a similar thing happen with AOL, she decided to get the wireless broadband prior to going on holiday, and when she came back they were offering a free lap top if you changed to their wireless broadband. :bonk: How long do they take the offer back to?

PS PapaLazarou, as a courtesy to your fellow Canon users, could you please inform them when you are planning to buy new Canon equipment so that they can plan their own buying to take advantage of the, it seems, inevitable cashback offers to follow. ;)

Maybe next time you are considering a Canon lens, email them before you buy and ask if there are any impending cash back offers. If yes, delay the purchase until the offer is in force.

What they should really do is stop the cashback and discount the equipment.

Not sure who is being more unreasonable: Canon for keeping to their published parameters or you for asking them to break them . Full marks for gall, nil pointes for justifiable outrage.

Looks like canon may be doing this offer twice a year October and about March may be worth waiting next time just to see Got to agree that is very bad luck to have it happen twice to you :bang:
Bob

Sorry about the lousy timing Mark... ;) Easy to say with hindsight though eh? but perhaps when you're next making that expensive purchase you might want to research or contact Canon to see if there are any imminent marketing or promotional deals around the corner. Even then though, though they might tell you, I guess they are not obliged to tell you are they, after all... they'd be losing money if they did.

Not poor service from Canon I'm afraid, but I can imagine how frustrated you feel.

Strange how we all differ.... If that had been me... Id now be kicking myself for having the bad luck to miss out.
Wouldn't occur to me to blame Canon for not stretching their limits to include me.

Suppose thats a self-esteem thing then..........some have so much they think that the world owes them.............and others of us just don't!

Youre not alone Papa ... I bought the 70-200mm f2.8 L ... just DAYS before the promo started
Im sure theres many more peeps just as miffed as us, such is life! :bang:

Always happens to someone, but as said, take it on the chin.

You bought the lens, at a price you deemed to be fair (otherwise you would not have bought it), and then it effectively drops in price. its the way it goes sometimes.

I never base my purchases on discounts and cash-back offers. Yes if they are there, i will take advantage of them, but if i know one is coming up, but i need / want the item NOW, then tough for me i pay full whack :)

next time your considering a major Canon purchase...... please post to let others know.

We'll hold fire for a couple of weeks :D

You could always ask the place you got it from if they would 'sort' the receipt out for you??? ;)

I was reading a sellers feedback on eBay just this week where a maggot left him negative feedback because 1 day after he bought the item he found it cheaper on Amazon so gave the innocent seller a negative..:cuckoo:

Sorry mate bad timing on your behalf, As for moving to Nikon thats your choice..;)

A friend of mine used to work in a electrical shop. One day a guy came in and said that the TV he brought 2 weeks ago was now xx amount cheaper and he wanted the difference back. To this the reply was, if it went up by xx would you have come in a given us the difference back.

It's annoying, but just one of those things in life that we have to put up with.

i agree with he sentiments on here, dreadful luck but its hardly anyones fault let alone canons, my dad also missed out on the new cashback deals on the 400d but hes not in the remote bit bothered, he was happy to pay what he did at the time.

Why do people question the bad things that happen to them, but not the good things?

What if you you bought the lens within the cashback time limit?
Would you question your luck?

Its unfortunate mate, but its unavoidable. Canon would lose thousands if they honoured every single person's 'premature cashback' queries.

I don't see the problem, surely you can't be angry with a manuafcturer for offering a deal after you bought their product. Do you moan about supermarkets, when they reduce a product the following week? do you moan about petrol prices dropping a day after you buy yours?

These things happen, move on!

I have to ask is there anyone who hasn't upset you. 2 recent examples are your rantings at Jessops and then camera magazines. You need to chill out and not get so round up about things.:)

If you think Nikon would do any different im afraid you are misguided, is very bad luck getting it happen twice to you but hardly Canon's fault, there are usually a lot of stories on t'interweb saying when the cashbacks will run and what is included, just takes a bit of research to stop the unfortunate happening :(

it's taken you one more go than most people to realise you should check for promotional schedules before you buy - if it really bothers you that much, which it certainly seems to.

Just my scanned receipts and changed the date, well it's worth a try.
Now dont want to here of any sad grasses out there.

And anyway I bet all you who are saying hard luck it's not Canons fault, check B4 you buy. I bet you lot was geeks at school, and i bet you all check with your stars when is the best time to take a crap.

How old are you..:suspect:

If its more than 10 please act it..

If its under 10 we forgive you..

I bought an Apple Mac pro using my daughter's student discount. A month later they start offering a FREE ipod to students. I rang them up and was told - Don't worry about it which one would you like! Yes I got a free Ipod - This is customer focus!! (They did notice that I had bought 5 new Apple computers in the last 6 months!)

When you have been around as long as me, and been one of the nice guys you get a bit p~ss~d when you keep getting ripped.

Dont assume you know me, or anything about me, and grow up (or at least act grown up) :nono:

Yes you got screwed by a well advertised cashback offer, and a little bit of research would have saved you missing out, but dont go throwing your toys out of the pram about it.

You posted your opinion about it on a public forum, and then got upset when you didn't get the replies you were hoping for

There's no need to be so insulting.

I'm closing this before any more petty insults and arguments are bandied about.
