Canon G9X, what about the lens?

Hi everybody,
after much debate, both in my head and with my wife, I think we are leaning towards the G9X.
I briefly tried it in the airport and loved the controls. Actually I should use the singular as there is only one dial, but I found the touchscreen very helpful to quickly switch between settings.

Anyway, as per the title, what about the lens? It's not as fast as the G7X's, that's for sure, but what about resolution and noise? Does it perform well when compared to the G7X?

Cheers

P.S. I might be going a bit off topic, but what about the touchscreen? Does it differ between the G9X and G7X or is the same degree of control over the camera's functions is offered between the two models?

I would have loved one, and I did have a good look at one. I really did want something pocketable, and I thought the G9X could have been it. But with the poor f/4.9 at the zoom end, and the price of it, I decided against it. I could not justify buying one at the current price. If the price came down significantly, I could be tempted to get one, as a carry everywhere camera.

I understand.
But it's still around £200 cheaper than the G7X Mk-II.
I'm trying to decide whether it's worth the difference...

It is not a popular camera, and I certainly would not dash out and buy one. If the price came down considerably, then I would go out and get one. Very expensive, for a pocket camera.

Yeah I noticed it's not very popular. I was trying to understand why.
To me looks like a tuned down G7X but then again, I'm hardly an expert so what do I know??

I had a Fuji XF1 that looked very similar to the Canon G9X, in Silver and tan. The fuji was a handy little camera, it fitted neatly in a pocket. That was f/1.8 at the wide angle, but dropped to a miserable f/4.9 at the zoom end. I was thinking of replacing it after it died, with the Canon G9X, but I simply could not bring myself to fork out a lot of money, for a small pocket camera. Yes the Canon does have a good sized sensor, but I still feel it is over priced.

I see. The difference in sensor size is substantial though.
Isn't that what we are paying for? Otherwise also the original RX100, which everybody seems to love no matter what, can be considered a hugely overpriced pockets camera. After all what does it offer more than the G9X?

I'm talking abou the FIRST versions of the RX100, which had a lens offering similar performance to that of the Canon. Later versions have better lens, but they surely are not in the same price range of the G9X
