i currently have a 40d that i am going to sell ang replace with something more compact, the g9/g10 keeps cropping up, do any of you guys have or know what these are like? im looking for something thats good across the board thanks

I've got a G9, it's a great wee camera, the only real gripe I have is with it's high (over 400) iso performance, but all compacts suffer the same way due to the size of the sensor

:agree: and I have a G10. Fabulous in every other respect

I too have been thinking about this, but when I weighed up the arguements for and against, is a lot of money for 100 ISO shooting camera, as anything above ISO 400 is not good. The extra MP (14) on the G10 has issues with details if your printing big as well, and the price you pay isn't far off 450D camera body money, which would give better all round performance than the G10 or 9. So my conclusion was, it was too much for so so performance unless under optimum conditions. Good, but not good enough for the $$$$

So I was looking at the panasonic TZ5 if you only want something small that fits in your pocket, less than £200 28-280mm zoom range and has some great reviews, gadget show even recommended it as an alternative to the G9/10.

Another canon than has some good reviews is the powershot SX-10, the replacement for the S5, with a 20x zoom. The problem you have with all compact are the sensors are small and performance in low light are not good

G10 is a great package, solid etc (I've tried one, and also a G9), but I also had a TZ-5, and my Dad has one now. Brilliant little camera, amazing range, very well made, amazing screen, just has less manual control the the G9 or G10.

Worth the money though, I think you can pick one up for about £180 !

You can't stick a 450D or an SX-10 in your pocket though, the TZ5 doesn't have a hotshoe and neither the SX-10 or TZ5 shoot in raw.

True.....go for the G10 if you need all this. It's possibly the best one out there right now for quality and pocketability.
