I am thinking of getting hold of a Canon G6 for when I dint want to carry an SLR. Does anybody on this forum use a Canon G6 compact.
How do you rate it?
How is the battery life?

I am planning to take it on climbing trips, so is it robust enough for the mountains, could you take it on a route around your neck? How is it in the cold?

I think the Canon G range are all good cameras but the best thing for you to do if you can is get your hands on one to try it out.

I had a g6 for a while and thought it was a great camera, super fast lens and very sharp images, flip out screen and the option to shoot in raw (not on the g7). It was small enough to take on several climbing trips and pretty robust. Downsides though are fairly poor flash and lots of noise above 400iso. If you can get one at a good price I would reccomend it. All the images here http://www.pbase.com/stephenb70/luxor_egypt
were taken with the G6. Hope this helps.

I have the G5 and have always been very pleased with it ... infact my best butterfly shot was taken with my G5.

I was looking to upgrade to the G7 for the extra pixels but the reason I personally love the G series in the first place is for that useful flip out screen (comes in really hand for me taking pics of my own nails).

Stephen are you saying the G7 doesnt have the flip screen? :(

Hmmm! Im really sulking here now!
In that case I dont really see any real reason for me to have a p&s of such size.
I might just as well look for something more sleek and easy to slip in a pocket.

Thanks for the info Stephen
