Last year I picked up a canon G5050 printer as I needed a printer for home and work. It’s been great for printing whilst working from home as I’ve printed thousands of pages (both colour and B&W) and it’s still above 50% on the ink wells! A full set of refills is less than £40 too.

I’ve just seen they now do a canon g550 photo printer version with more ink types. As photo printers go it feels a great price.

Anyone got one? I’d not expect amazing prints but it could potentially bridge a gap between photo prints and home/office prints whilst having low running costs too.

looking at the canon website is £14 per refill bottle so £84for the full set.

The G650 version caught my eye as it will copy and scan as well...............the G550 only prints. Therefore the G650 is a more capable update to my TS8250 AIO printer.

However, neither version AFAIK has been UK/EU released yet = no real world reviews yet :(

I initially spotted ref to the Epson Et-8550 A3 + printer and its A4 cousin the ET-8500 but price & performance wise they are much faster & more costly than the latter heard about Canons!

So for own future reference if I will only ever print max A4 the Canon G650 looks like very good value BUT the Chromalife 100 dye inks are/may not be that good for longevity when it comes to selling prints. Compared the praise I read that Epson Claria dye inks are seen as an close match to pigment inks in the display longevity stakes. Therefore, should I be able to and/or wish to print >A4 the Epson ET-8550 will in future bear serious consideration???

I hadn’t noticed they haven’t been released yet. For a printer of this price bracket I’d only ever print for personal use. If selling the prints I’d probably get them done professionally.
worth waiting to see if this printer gets good reviews for a hobbyist.

Those new Canon printers are actually aimed at more than the hobbyist (price point) market. The promo video clearly talks of the high throughput market.....kiosk & events(?).

FWIW I have to date had anything for exhibition & sales (limited though I have done ;) ) printed commercially. But for test prints and home white board hanging I have been very happy with the quality @ 6x4inches from my TS8250. On regard to A4 prints,.....the ink costs on the TS printer are high and that is one reason I am considering an 'ink tank' type printer, as I would definitely be looking to print more photos at reduced ink costs! :)
