I have a 550EX flash and want to add 1 or 2 flashes into the mix. Am I better going for slave canon flashes ( if so, which ones work? ) or am I better using wireless triggers?
I presume if using the wireless, I could use any flash going? Some of the old Canon EZ range seem cheap, but can I use them.
Camera is a 40D

TTL or manual?

If you want to retain ttl on your 40d, then you will need more canon guns that are marked EX, using your 550ex as a master. This uses infra red and all the benefits/problems that entails.

Manual - any manual controllable gun with a hotshoe (like the early EZ strobes (can recommend the 540ez heartily)) will work, but you have to set the camera and the flash manually and buy a radio trigger like the rf602.

TLL or manual?

Budget?

What do you want to shoot and where? Indoors/outdoors, distance?

Could be £100-ish to over £1k depending on the answers. TTL is expensive, radio TTL is very expensive.

I would love to use ttl, as I believe it would be more simple to use, but I also realise it will be expensive.
It is messing around to start, so limited budget. 420EZ flashes seem to be <£40. I thought 2 of those and a set of triggers. To go TTL, I am talking >£200 a flash.

Make sure your trigger is an rf602 yongnuo, as the 420ez falls asleep after a few minutes and only the 602 (there may be others) can wake them back up.

I have one somewhere, and they are nice guns.
