The shooting session before last the downloaded raw file names were, as a for instance - IMG_1947, the last shooting session the raw file names were, again, as a for instance - Q31A4425 I can find no reference to filenames beginning with a Q in the manual.

I know it's dead easy to change file names, I'm more concerned what has changed to cause this different type of file name.

Thanking you in anticipation for your help.

Have had a tinker with my camera and in the file naming menu there is an option to start file names with a "Q", don't remember changing this setting, must have been a bit of "finger trouble".

I've never seen or heard of a Canon naming a file as such.

In fact, I don't think it's allowed under the DCF file system, which is standardised. Are you sure your computer hasn't somehow duplicated it on import and created its own file name?

Edit - just seen the above? Have you altered the colour space, ie, switched to Adobe RGB?

Jim, looked at the shot info on the camera, showing sRGB, which I believe is the correct one.

On the Canon 1D bodies you can choose your own four character alphanumeric prefix for the file names, or you have the option of choosing the 4 character prefix assigned by the factory. In theory each body has its own unique number, so when agencies are working with multiple photographers there's no chance of file name conflicts and they can identify the photographer from the file prefix. I believe that more of the recent Canon bodies have the same feature.
