Looking for a Canon 35mm FD lens but the prices are a bit beyond me. I have a number of M42 35mm lenses, would a Canon FD to M42 adapter present any problems?

When you use the adapter the pin on the M42 lens won't stop down, so only M42 lenses that can stop down manually will work properly e.g. Pentax has auto/manual switch so you can set manually.

For anyone wanting to use "foreign" lenses on a different type of mount, this table provides pretty much all the back focus distances, essential for knowing if a particular lens can be focussed to infinity on a particular type of camera...

I have an actual Canon lens mount convertor P which is very simple so, as excalibur2 notes, you may not be able to use non-automatic M42 lenses, and I've only ever tried it with preset lenses myself. However, by the look of it it might actuate the stop down pin so automatic lenses can be used in stopped down mode. Unfortunately, I don't have any M42 automatic diaphragm lenses in my collection to try it out. The convertor is breech block mounting on the body side and very well made. They seem to sell for about £20.
