Do i buy the sigma 70-200 f2.8 or save for the canon. I have also heard about the canon f4 L, being very sharp and cheaper would anyone recommend it?: :help:

I've just bought the 70-200f2.8 IS and I have to admit to absolutely loving it. I have certainly heard some good reports of the Sigma version and from what I have heard if it's the non-IS version of the lens you were planning on tracking down then there may not be much to choose. The IS just nicked it for me though I must say. If you want to see shots from my lens then have a look at "Sorry - more squirrels" in the Animal section of Photo Sharing - they were all taken with it.

One thing also to consider is that the resale value on the Canon will be that much higher. Third-party lenses tend to lose value quicker and if ever you were in a position to need to sell something to make ends meet it might be preferable to have to sell only one lens rather than half your kit!

Hope that helps! :)

Witch pretty much covers it all, I too would recommend the Canon, the 70-200 whether the f4, f2.8, or f2.8 IS are all regarded by many as some of the best zooms around and if you can afford the Canon variants Im sure you wont be disappointed. Sigma provides a good altenative but if choice allows I would go for the Canon every time.

:agree:

As onother happy 2,8 IS owner....It has all been said above!!

Actually, I'll paraphrase....

Save and buy the Canon f2.8 IS version!!! :canon: :D

I've got the sigma F2.8. In terms of sharpness it's at least as good as Canon's non IS version and better than the IS model. Focussing is quick and accurate and in my opinion is far better value than either of the canon F2.8's.

However, I will change it eventually for the Canon IS version, the only reason being the weatherproofing it will provide on the 1D.

Simple answer.. buy the canon.
