Canon Error99 code

Hi Lawrence, I had a very similar problem with my 400D recently; err99 would flash up, and the only thing that'd get rid of it temporarily was to take the memory card out and put it back in again, but even that stopped working after a while.

Took it to Jessops and they replaced a circuit in the camera as that was faulty.

I did come across a very good website where this chap details the steps to take with err99 before taking it in to get repaired here:

http://www.richardsnotes.org/archives/2005/04/29/50mm-lens-contact-points/

Read it, but the most important bit imo is the "update 2" section where it takes you step-by-step through what to do. Good luck though; hopefully it's just a one-off rather than a dodgy circuit like mine!

I had this problem when shooting continuous. I used the link posted by Dan76 which is very good and I went thru step by step. Turned out I need a faster mem card.

During todays wedding, the camera (1d MK111) stopped & the "error 99" code came up. I withdrew the battery & re-installed as per the instruction, but this happened 3 times during the afternoon. What does the code mean? Thanks for any replies.

LAWRENCE

For me it meant a trip to Canon repair shop, a bill for 450 euros for the repairs, and new parts. But then again, for me the camera just gave up and wouldn't do anything at all.

If it continues... I recomend to take it to Canon for repairs. Especially if you still have it under warranty!

Thanks for the replies so far. I was shooting in continuous mode & AI focus (the wedding party were running towards me). I've done this shot many times & had no problems, maybe it's caught up with me??? It was cold as well although I've had weddings over the weekend & done similar shots in similar weather conditions.

Another reason that I posted up is that a colleague of mine had the ERROR 99 message show up every time he switched the camera on eventually leading to it being sent back to Canon.

Oh well, the lens contacts & card contacts are now clean. Let's wait & see...........Cheers.

LAWRENCE
