Yes
Just about to order my R6 Mkii and it has SD cards I can purchase at the same time. I would like to shoot photos mainly but also I am likely to utilise the video side of it too. With that in mind, is there a difference to the memory cards I should order. The difference in cost between the lower spec and mid spec us only slight. However the higher spec is significantly more.

The cards available are;

SanDisk Extreme UHS-I (170MB/s) 64GB = £25

SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-I (200MB/s) 64GB = £30

SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-II (300MB/s) 64GB = £60

As yo can see, the top spec us significantly more and I don't want to pay so much more if I don't need it. However, I also don't want to have limited use of the camera by using a card not up to the job.

As always, thank you for your help.

Mick

There is a difference but unless you plan to do massive burst shooting it probably won't matter in camera (though I know nothing about the buffer in the R6).
Lexar do a UHS-2 128GB for under £50 at WEX just slightly under the speed of the SanDisk - Link Here .
Double capacity for video could be the better option. :)

Used to be so much simpler when you had SD, SDHC and SDXC... It's just SDXC now I believe with smallest cards being 32Gb

Not only you have to consider UHS-1 or UHS-II, I think the main advantage of UHS-II if you intend on shooting prolonged bursts at very fast FPS.

I think, but I could be wrong, that there are three further levels of SDXC card now - V30, V60 and V90 (cheap to dear) - for video capability.

Quick check - does the R6ii accept UHS-II?

I'd go for the £30 option and get 2.

R6ii does support UHS-II

If you can be certain you'll never squirt off a second or two of 40 FPS then you don't need UHS-II
If you might need that then you do (make sure the card is capable of at least 270MB/s write speed)

Edited to add - you need a v90 card for top performance - a cursory glance suggests the SanDisk v90 is £120ish - there are Kodak, Integral & Kingston for £70-90 (I'm 200k shots into a pair of Kingston's - not missed a beat. Your mileage may vary etc)

I don’t have a R6ii but do have a R7. I tried Pre-capture/raw burst with a slower card and it couldn’t keep up so decided a faster UHS-II card was required. However I am unlikely to use RAW burst very often and very rarely take video, so the slower cards are fine for me most of the time. None of the cards are expensive compared with the cost of the camera and the lenses. Perhaps keep to the mid range for now and get a faster one if necessary.

Also check the write speed of the SanDisk Extreme PRO UHS-II card if you decide on that as the specs on Amazon state 90MB/s. Perhaps there is a newer version.

To add: if you buy a large UHS-II card, get something like an Integral UHS-II SD card reader. For a long time I made do with my elderly card readers which took forever to download...the newer card readers are so much quicker.

Even the fastest of the above choices is dirt cheap compared to not-too-many years ago! We used to have to pay more than that for MB rather than GB!!!

I remember the day when I was at Ffordes and they were cock-a-hoop with the news that 1Gb were less than £100!

The first CF card I acquired (bought the shop floor model EOS10D at Dixons in Newcastle) and they left an 32MB CF card in, in error.

I felt like I'd won the lotto  Still have both the 10D and the CF card.

Also still have a huuuuuuuuuuge 64MB SD card in my desk at work and I can't for the life of me work out why I have it or where it came from. It's slower than a wet weekend obviously and I can nearly fit 6 JPGs on it (ISO dependent) from the R6ii (to steer back vaguely towards being on topic)

Edit: typo

Somewhere, I have a 4MB CF card that came with my first digital compact - a Coolpix 3100.
