Hi. I'm relatively new to photography ... I have had a digital camera but about six months ago I bought a film camera (Canon EOS elan 7n) to capture keepsake photos of my 2 year old son.

I went to use the camera today and it is totally dead and won't turn on at all. I bought new batteries and that did not help either. I referred back to the manual in the trouble shooting section and the only thing it suggested to do when the camera would not turn on is change the battery. Has anyone ever had this problem? Any suggestions. I'm feeling very frustrated.

Thanks!

Kris

That could be anything really. Batteries is the obvious thing but you say you've changed them. Try removing the batteries and looking at the bottom of the battery compartment and the contacts on the compartment lid for any sign of green corrosion which will spoil the contact and which you can usually carefully scrape away.

Make sure the batteries are in the right way round, and test the batteres in something else if you can to make sure they are working. If that doesn't solve the problem then you need to get it looked at by a repair technician.

Welcome aboard anyway :)

Thanks a lot. The camera is new so there is no corrosion and I have checked the battery position about 20 times. I feel like it has to be something simple, but nothing I've tried is working. I guess I will have to take it in to a repair shop. Thanks again for taking time to respond!

No probs. If it's new, is it under warranty still?

I hope so ... I bought it in May, but I have to check the details about the warranty.

:)

Is the film loaded properly?

Sometimes there's a secondary lithium battery to keep the camera functions/metering etc going, it might need replacing if yours has one..
