Is it possible to connect a Canon EOS5D Mk1 to WiFi so that I can look at photos on tablet or laptop as they are taken.

I see you can do it with the Mk2

No mention in the specs or manual= not available.

Perhaps the mk2 was an upgrade in that regard.
 
Wasn't the 5D mk1 from the days before wifi?

It wasn't something that I ever did with mine, but I believe that at the time you could get wifi enabled CF cards. However I did tether mine with a USB cable to Lightroom.

These are not cheap, even 2nd hand! I think I will put the money to one side for upgrading the camera (well, getting an additional camera as for what I would get for it I don't think it is worth selling/trading in)

That's interesting. So potentially you can hard wire direct to a PC or tablet?

Definitely not cheap and sounds like it can be complicated to setup. Shame the MK1 doesn't have dual card slots like the mk2/3 /4 as then you could use one as storage and the other for an eyefi card.

My previous comment was a bit tongue in cheek, but the 5D mk1 came about before the iPad. I only did it with a Mac, but I am sure that it is the same for PC.
 
I seem to remember a SD wifi card? That and a CF to SD addaptor might work, assuming the cards are still made.
