Yes
an ef lens wont work with your body, it is designed for crop cameras and will cut into the image on your 5d, i also think the rear element is too close to the sensor to work as well. stick to the ef range, which lenses are you considering?

Can't say for sure as I don't own any EF-S lenses, but I doubt it will as I believe there is some mechanical difference in the lens mounts that prevents it. In any case, you'll lose infinity focus.

the thing from amazon is a 12mm extension tube, which gives you 12mm of macro extension. This means you can take pictures a little bit closer than normal, and you lose infinity focus.

With this you can mount an EFs lens on an EF only body, however you only get the centre section illuminated so theres not much point. In short you cant mount an EFS lens to an EF body and get full illumination of the screen

Sorry

It may well fit, but that is not the purpose of extension tubes - extension tubes are a cheap way to macro and give increased magnification but a severely compromised focus range.

Yes, it does look like it would enable you to use the lenses, but the character of the lens will have changed perhaps so much you won't want it!

Thanks, I think you've all more or less confirmed my thoughts.... I was looking for a way of using my 18-55 IS EFS lens on my 5D to save having to buy another lens (I wanted to use it as a more general purpose walk around lens on it, as the 28-105 is a bit bulky at times) I'll have to reconsider.... hmmm...

:)

EF-s lenses don't fit FF bodies because the lens protrudes at the back stopping the mirror from lifting so don't try fitting it

The 18-55 would be useless on the 5D even if it could fit.
It produces a image circle that is designed for cameras with a smaller sensor - so would project images as a clipped circle on the 5D,

Are you talking about the Canon 28-105 F3.4-F4.5? Hardly a bulky lens?
If you are not, maybe get one of those, also a very nice lens.
