Hi chaps.

I recently put my ef-rf adapter onto my Canon 16-35mm. I have removed it successfully many times.

However, for some reason it has jammed on and won't come off.

I've had an estimate to fix it @ £300.

I'm sure I could cut it off myself.

Before I try anything majorly destruction, does anyone have a less destructive solution.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

I’d try googling, youtubing and googling again before doing anything drastic, it’d be a shame to potentially damage a decent lens or adapter over an oversight or a easy fix.

Joe, is the adapter stuck on the lends but free from the body?

Is it a genuine EF/RF adapter?

Can you feel the locking pin release when you lift the catch on the adapter? If it helps, I have taken a photo of my adapter so you can see the pin.

Hi chaps...sorry for not replying straight away.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a genuine Canon adapter.
Free from body, stuck on lens

I actually sent it in for a assessment for repair.

Thanks for the photo Buck. Yes, I bought another adaptor and could then workout what had happened.

Somehow the button jammed and wouldn't move at first. The I tried wiggling the button and nothing worked, hence sending it in for repair.

However, after seeing how the adapter works, I realised its the button mechanism problem.

I wasn't going to pay £300 as I could cut it off and buy another for less.

Anyway, I received my 16-35mm back, thinking it would still have the adapter on. However it had been removed.

Yippee! I hear you cry.

Nope...the lens was in the bag but no adapter.

Anyway, I've informed the company and now am awaiting my (damaged?) adapter.

I wait with interest to see what the outcome is.

However, bit annoyed the adapter jammed in the first place.

I think canon should repair this for free given you were using 1st party lens and adapter and this clearly seems like a manufacturing defect.

for example Nintendo will repair the Nintendo Switch joy cons for free if there is a "joy con drift" issue even if its our of warranty and/or you do not have a purchase receipt.
I don't think they are doing this out of the kindness of their hearts but because some consumer laws are not on their side.

I am no consumer law expert, I'd be really surprised if Canon can get away with charging £280 for what essentially seems to be a manufacturing defect.
Might be bit of a headache to fight it but worth investigating me thinks....

Also, how long have you had the adapter? Is it still in warranty?

Good that they have released the adapter from the lens but poor form not t9 return it at the same time as the lens!

I've had the adapter since August 2021. Maybe taken on and off lenses about 10 times at most. So, if they return it damaged, which is the only way to get it off, I'm not sure how my warranty will work. The place I bought it from are happy to sort it out as long as it's a manufacturer's defect...which it is. It's proving it once the item was damaged to get it off. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Well, good luck - certainly shouldn't be sticking even though it has to be a tight fit to prevent light leaks (I know mine feels "tight" in a good way). Keep the thread updated.

Finally, I received the adapter back Wednesday. It hadn't been repaired. I can see that the button doesn't depress the lock pin fully, in fact it only drops 25%. I have now sent it off under warranty for repair or replace.
