Has anyone had or used this lens, i have a chance of buying one fairly cheep and i would like some info on its performance.

I know its not an expensive lens but it could turn out to be usefull.

Paul,
I had one a while back and it's fine for its purpose and also doubles as a reasonable portrait lens. If you're after shots of nervous insects then it's probably a little too short on the working distance front but for flower blooms and other static items it'll be fine.
Also bear in mind that it won't be suitable for a full frame body...5D or 1Ds series.

i have that lens, it's a true macro, but only works with the EF-S fits. never used it for portraits, instead only found it good (for my use anyway) to do gemstones, jewellery, wacky upcloses of anything that doesn't really move fast (like buzzing bugs!) but very nice, and quite fun.

Thanks for the feedback, i was going to use it for some portrait work but it would be mainly used for flowers and that type of macro stuff.

The problem as you say, it would not fit my Canon 1N so it will just be used for the 40D, the lens is going for about £110 to £120 so it is cheep and it is brand new boxed and all that.

I am looking for a L series lens for portrait still not sure on which lens to buy??

Hi, I have that lens and use it on a 40D, its good at what it dose, but as said not ideal for insects, here is a pic I took with it at Santago for you to check quality.

100% i like it Cosmix3, i think at the price its going for i can still use just for the flowers and stuff, i am not to bothered about taking pics of insects.

ill pick it up at the weekend.
