I have been playing around using my EF-S lenses (Sigma 17-70 macro C & Canon 55-250 is stm) on my little M100 using a Meike adaptor. They work just fine on the M100, impressively so, but (there had to be a "but") I'm certainly getting the impression that battery life is much shorter than when using an EF-M lens. I'm rationalising that the larger lenses, particularly the Sigma, needs more energy to move the larger lens mass around.
To some extent I'm possibly answering my own question here but wondered whether anyone could comment.

Must admit I have never noticed that on my M5 before but then batteries only seem to last 5 minutes on that anyway.

I believe the Sigma has IS in which case I'm sure it must draw more power.
Yes the Sigma is AF which I tend to use most of the time. The M100 is screen only (no EVF) so that will use most power but even so I think power disappears more quickly with the sigma as opposed to the efm 18-55 is stm. It could be that the stm system is also more efficient. Interesting to hear that the M5 is greedy on batteries. I was pondering buying an M5, and although I always make a point of having a spare battery or two in hand, I was hoping the M5 might be better battery wise with the E17 instead of the M100 and M50 using the E12.

Not AF, IS (image stabilization) ... which would use more battery power presumably.

M% is a great little camera though, very under rated snd rather unsupported by Canon which us a shame.

The Sigma 17-70 macro "contemporary" is both auto/manual and stabilised as is also the efm 18-55.
