I need some help choosing a replacement for the 400D kit lens. I've been considering both of these, the canon because of the IS and the Tamron because I've read it's very sharp and constant f2.8.

I mainly take indoor pics of family and friends, poor light is causing issues with my pics due to camera shake (I rarely use a tripod during a family event). I like the idea of the canon because of the IS and its only £115 but I've read very good things about the Tamron picture quality & constant aperture also appeals to me, downside is it's £250

Head says Canon, heart says Tamron

Can anyone who has used either lens give me their opinions please?

Thanks.

Used both lenses a bit and whilst the IS version of the 18-55mm seems to be a big improvement on the old kit lens, I would say the Tamron is miles ahead in terms of IQ. The f2.8 throughout is also seriously fast and very handy. Given that, I think your head should be saying Tamron!

These are taken with the Tamron yesterday
