Hi can anyone recommend a lens to the quality and price of the Canon EF-S 17-85mm? My 17-85 has developed the dreaded ribbon cable fault so i dont really want to buy another or get it fixed knowing that the problem could arise again in the future.

Cheers.

Mat.

Canon 18-135 (Light and adequate, it depends on how much of a pixel peeper you are)
Canon 18-135 STM (Newer, better, dearer)
Canon 15-85 (Closest Canon FL equivalent and a superb lens but not cheap)
Sigma 17-70 f2.8-f4 (Not quite the reach but faster with good optics, great value if you buy used)

I have the 17-55 f2.8 for critical shoots which is ab fab but I use the 18-135 for day to day shooting simply because its lighter and I love the reach. If you don't print to silly large sizes its a good little lens.

I have the 18-135mm STM well reccomemded I compared it directly with the 17-85mm and it is far better, But as stated dearer. Grey imports for just over £200 if you shop around I paid £235 for mine of ebay from a guy who carries them in stock in London.
