Yes
The focus ring on my lens has gone sticky /tacky to the touch. Warm soapy water on a damp microfibre just leaves black marks on the cloth and the ring remains tacky

Any suggestions please for a fix. Ideally dont want to send away for repair as I'm not certain if the lens value makes it viable

For the avoidance of doubt I'm referrring to the hard plastic focus ring closest to the lens mount and not the rubber zoom ring, which I know can easily be peeled off and replaced by the user

TIA

Damn. Shame it's an integral part of the lens.

Sticky Stuff remover? White spirit?

Sticky Stuff remover worked on an old film era Sigma lens I have that went sticky but it or maybe just the act of cleaning it also took the markings off so if you use something quite aggressive it may spoil the appearance but I'd guess the lens isn't worth a lot in its current state and if you intend to keep it I'd go for anything that makes it useable.

Thanks for that. That's my main concern is I make it worse ! I have got some tar remover for the car but again wonder if it might be too harsh.
Is Isopropyl alcohol suitable for this type of thing or unlikely to work ?

Sorry, I just don't know but maybe someone else will...

I use Sticky Stuff remover and white spirit as I have them in.

Thick paste of water and bicarbonate of soda worked for me on a digital radio that went sticky. I have also heard of good results with nail varnish remover, not tried it myself though.
