Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Lens

no - its soft and you will hate it. try and hunt for a 2nd hand sigma 70-300APO. its about 80 notes for a good copy.
 
If you get a good sharp copy, then most certainly yes. However, they vary and a bad one is a severe possibility.

Can you test it first? I was lucky enough with mine, but it took me three attempts to get one I am totally happy with.

I have got the USM version of this lens for sale in the for sale section here, there are some sample pictures attached. I certainly don't think it is as bad as people make out, I've only got rid of it to replace with L glass.
 
If you buy second hand you can probably get back pretty much what you pay for it anyway. The 90..300mm variant is supposed to be a little bit better but only really much use over 200mm at F8.
 
I'll sell you mine for 64 quid... :)
