Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-f/5.6 IS USM

what is the diffrence between the lenses i am listing below i am looking at buying the lens above i have been told its a good walk and shoot lens

canon 80-200mm non usm
canon 28-80mm usm 2 i belive

i know it has is which what i am looking for in a lens i have hands that wont stay still lol

i am still new to all this so i am just trying to learn

can any one help

The 28-135 IS is certainly a better option than the old 28-80. The 80-200 isn't a bad lens and, although ageing a little now wouldn't be a bad purchase at the right price. It's drawback for you is that 80mm on the wide end isn't going to cover much of what a walkabout lens is about.

If you're buying a used 28-135 then it's advisable to ask about "zoom creep". This lens is prone to it as it ages and essentially means that the zoom mechanism has loosened to the point where it extends all on its own as it hangs around your neck.

the 28-200 i have already got bought it cheap and seems good

what do you mean about zoom creep and the rest of the statment

sorry to be a pain just a bit new to the techno bable

lens was originally from kerso from this forum and is described in mint condition
 
Zoom creep usually affects push/pull type zooms and the higher spec ones have a tension selector ring to "stiffen up" the zooming action. This one is a rotary zoom and has no such adjustment. It's not uncommon to find that copies of this lens will zoom out to 135mm just by pointing the lens downwards. It has no detrement to the quality of shots taken but is an indication that the lens has been heavily used...frequently changes to the focal length. I've seen reports that people have suffered this from new but I would expect the lens to have been returned under warranty if this were the case.

one other thing since i will be getting a 28-135 Is lens, I presume the 28-80 might aswell be sold as the 28 -135 covers the 28-80 lens

or have i got that wrong
 
I used to have the 28-135.

It's pretty soft wide open but is still good value for money.

There's little in the way of alternatives unless you spend 3x the price on the 24-105L. Mrs CB uses one as her walkabout/do-all lens.
