Alright guys

Thanks for all the help and info on the Sigma 18-50 f2.8, was meant to be collecting it tomorrow but the guy hasnt been back in touch about it, the swine.

Instead, i have been offered the Canon 28-105 for £120 in mint condition.

Is this worth it? I am just looking for a decent lens that my partner can use on her 30d (that we are collecting sunday hopefully)

Its for sale, new, for £185 on warehouseexpress.co.uk

Your help is really appreciated :)

Mike

Ok, cool, i guess ill keep clear then

If you can push the boat out a little bit then the EF28-135 IS makes a pretty good walkabout for someone who wants nice shots but isn't obsessive about corner to corner sharpness. The IS helps with indoor stuff if you don't want to resort to flash.
You should pick a good used one up for around £180ish

Thanks for the advice Canon Bob :)

It's certainly a very different lens to the 18-50 you were looking at origionally, personally I would find 24mm a bit restrictive in a walk about lens but then I tend to shoot at the wider end of my 17-70 most of the time.

I know, its a very different lens from the 18-50, but the guy selling it was ok on Monday and havent heard from him since. Really annoying as he was really up for selling it this weekend, now dont hear from him!

Just wanted peoples advice really on the lens, as im not familiar with it. Plus there are plenty of people here that have a far greater tech knowledge then me :)

The reason im not too bothered about 28mm, is because i already own a 17-85 that i hardly use as im always using my 24-70 as im not about landscapes and stuff :)

Is that the Sigma, if so, any good?

That is the sigma and I can't fault it would recomend it without hesitation. It very rarely leaves my camera and I've taken virtually all my favourite shots with it. I find the range ideal as it allows those wider landscape shots but also has a reasonable telephoto range and the 'macro' while not being a true macro is very handy when out and about. For me it's the perfect walkabout lens only possible improvements would be OS and a bit more speed at the long end as the 2.8 doesn't go far enough!

Photozone like it alot as well http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/312-sigma-af-17-70mm-f28-45-dc-macro-test-report--review

Another vote for the Sigma 17-70...a stunning lens.

Cheers,
James
